The whole cast and crew are on a big roll as ‘Barbie’ has finally entered the billion-dollar club! Greta Gerwig’s pink-coated fantasy film has been breaking records one-by-one. According to the US media reports, it has surpassed $1 billion worldwide, including $459 million in North America and $572 million internationally till August 5. This made Gerwig the first-ever female director who single handedly achieved a billion-dollar feat.

Before ‘Barbie’, the other films directed by a woman that created such history were ‘Frozen’ (2013), which collected $1.3 billion and ‘Frozen 2’ (2019), which earned $1.45 billion. These two films were jointly directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck. Another is ‘Captain Marvel’ (2019), which collected $1.1 billion. It was also jointly directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.

Apart from surpassing over a billion at the box office, another striking news is that ‘Barbie’ has collected the sum within seventeen days of its release. Collecting $155 million on its first day, it has also become the biggest opener of 2023.

On the other hand, Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ has also made an indelible mark by surpassing $500 million worldwide. The film has done exceptional business mostly from the UK, China and India.
