It was one of the most iconic clashes of Hollywood, when the two biggest films of the year, ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Barbie’ released on the same day and interestingly both are ruling the box office worldwide. While Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ earned more than $500 million, Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ collected more than $300 million till now.

Bringing $155 million on its first weekend, ‘Barbie’ broke the record for first-weekend success for a film directed by a woman. While talking about this achievement, Bettina Dorfmann, who has been holding the Guiness World Record for the biggest Barbie dolls collector since 2005, told iNews that “collecting Barbie’s is a great way to see how the world has changed including women’s careers from the ’50s to today.”

However, all the credit goes to social media for making much hype and promotions of the films, which made a large number of people visit the theatres and watch both ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Barbie’.

The makers of both the films went overboard with non-stop promotions. ‘Oppenheimer’, interestingly, pushed its London premiere forward by an hour, knowing that Emily Blunt, Matt Damon and Cillian Murphy would have to leave to symbolically join the picket lines by the time the movie began.
