The closer the day comes, the bigger the tension grows. The two long awaited films ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Barbie’ are going to be released on the same day, that is, July 21. The most interesting part is that both the films star some of the biggest names of Hollywood.

While ‘Oppenheimer’, directed by Christopher Nolan, stars Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Emily Blunt and Matt Damon, ‘Barbie’, directed by Greta Gerwig, stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa and Will Farrell.

‘Oppenheimer’ is based on the true story of physicist J Robert Oppenheimer, who worked with a team of scientists during the Manhattan Project, leading to the development of the atomic bomb. The film has been highly anticipated ever since Nolan confirmed that he’s indeed making the film. The trailer has also created tremendous hype. It is said to be Nolan’s first historical drama.

On the other hand, ‘Barbie’ is a live-action film and after the trailer released, it seems like the film is not only for kids. The story is about how Barbie leaves her dreamy fancy world and appears in the real world. The trailer also showed Barbie trying to cope up real hard outside the fictional world. As of now, it can be said that if ‘Barbie’ showcases a different storyline other than the typical Barbie story which we all have heard since our childhood, it can score big time with the audiences.

According to US trade analysts, ‘Oppenheimer’ is expected to open at $40-50 million. Nolan’s last film ‘Tenet’ (2020) was released during the pandemic. As theatres were shut in several countries, it failed to earn well at the box office. Hence all eyes are now on ‘Oppenheimer’.

For ‘Barbie’, experts predict that it could open at around $80 million. As per a recent report, together ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ are expected to collectively earn $200 million at the US box office in its first weekend, that is, from July 21 to July 23.
