Mahesh Ramprasad Sharma, popularly known for working jointly with Kishor Sharma from the ’90s, took his last breath at the age of 71 due to a prolonged illness on August 6, 2023. He was the brother of the legendary composer, Pyarelal Sharma, of Laxmikant-Pyarelal fame. He mastered the art of playing the violin.

His others siblings included Naresh Sharma, Anand Sharma, Ganen Sharma and Gorakh Sharma.

Mahesh Sharma’s family friend Ridge Dim disclosed the grieving news to the media saying, “The family is saddened to inform you that he passed away today on August 6, 23 in Mumbai. Mahesh Sharma’s last journey took place on 7th August from his residence B-903, New Mhada Complex, Andheri West 53, Raj Yoga Society, Lokhandwala to Oshiwara Crematorium.”

Mahesh with his friend Kishor Sharma, jointly have given many hit songs from the ’90s. They have mostly worked with Sridevi, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Suneil Shetty in films like ‘Sanam Bewafa’ (1991), ‘Balwaan’ (1992), ‘Khal-Naaikaa’ (1993), ‘Ek Hi Raasta’ (1993), ‘Chand Ka Tukda’ (1994), ‘Ikke Pe Ikka’ (1994) and ‘Nazar Ke Samne’ (1995).

The duo was comfortable working with Saawan Kumar Tak and had a pretty long association with him, delivering five films together such as ‘Chand Ka Tukda’, ‘Sanam Bewafa’, ‘Ikke Pe Ikka’ and ‘Khal-Naaikaa’. From Late Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Kavitha Krishnamurthy, Sadhana Sargam, Abhijeet, Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan to Pankaj Udhas, Vipin Sachdeva, Vinod Rathod, Alisha Chinai, the composer duo worked with all the big names for their renditions.

Mahesh-Kishor’s songs like “Chudi Maza Na Degi”, “Sanam Bewafa” have created much hype and are still cherished by fans while recalling the romantic era.

Although the musical duo’s style of music relied on melody and a good orchestration like his brother Pyarelal, unfortunately, they did not have many huge hits to their credit and they lost out in the rat race with the rise of Nadeem-Shravan, Anand-Milind, Anu Malik and Dilip Sen-Sameer Sen in the early ‘90s, when they debuted. Some of their movies were also heavily delayed and the music got stale by the time the movie got released in the theatres, such as ‘Tune Mera Dil Le Liyaa’ (2000).
