After enjoying a successful stint on television and doing a couple of films down South, Yami Gautam made her Hindi film debut with ‘Vicky Donor.’ While Ayushmann Khurrana, who played the titular role, walked away with glory, Yami, too, had her share of fame and accolades coming her way post the success of the film. In her Bollywood career, spanning almost half a decade, Yami has done a handful of films and some noteworthy endorsements that has kept her in the limelight. But, that one film that would have helped her enter the big league had not really arrived. Until now.

‘Kaabil’, her next film which has her paired with Hrithik Roshan, is carrying a lot of buzz and is arguably, her biggest release till date. Though the actress had earlier shared screen space with the likes of Ajay Devgn (Action Jackson) and Varun Dhawan (Badlapur) and had left a mark with her presence in those films, Kaabil is the first film where she plays the quintessential heroine to a major star. Though ‘Kaabil’ has a major opposition in the form of ‘Raees’, one expects the former, which seems to have all the ingredients of a commercial Hindi revenge drama, to penetrate into both the A centres and the single screens in small towns. That should help Yami get her first film with a pan India presence.

2016 had turned out to be a mixed bag for Yami as far as her professional career is concerned. While ‘Sanam Re’, after a good opening, settled at being an average fare, ‘Junooniyat’ could not make any sort of noise whatsoever. 2017 promises to be better as two months after ‘Kaabil’ hits the theatres, she has Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Sarkar 3’ up for release.
