Yahya Abdul-Mateen ll, who grabbed an Emmy for ‘Watchmen’ (2019), has also stolen the show in films like ‘Baywatch’ (2017), ‘Aquaman’ (2018), ‘Candyman’ (2021), ‘The Matrix Ressurections’ (2021) and many more.

Recently in an interview with Vulture, the actor talked about his work with DC’s Extended Universe (DCEU) and said according to him, acting in DC movies is like clown work to him. He added that it’s quite important for him to flex his acting skills and DC is not the perfect place for him. He said, “Everything should be about getting to the truth. But sometimes you got to know which movie or genre you’re in. Something like ‘Aquaman,’ that’s clown work. ‘Aquaman’ is not ‘The Trial Of The Chicago 7′ (2020). You have got to get over yourself.”

“In order to survive as an actor and to do it well, you have to play that game and then be crafty about when you want to surprise the audience, the director, or yourself with a little bit of ‘Wow, I didn’t expect to see a Chekhovian thing or August Wilson and ‘Aquaman’, but I did,” Yahya further added.

Yahya has portrayed the role of David Kane aka Black Manta in ‘Aquaman’ and now he will be reprising his role in the upcoming sequel ‘Aquman And The Lost Kingdom’ opposite Jason Momoa, which is supposedly going to be released on December 25, 2023. The first part had collected $1 billion worldwide and had marked the first DC movie to earn this in 2018.
