T. Rama Rao, Indian cinema’s renowned veteran director, passes away

Tatineni Rama Rao, who had given numerous unforgettable feature films, both in Bollywood and Tollywood, took his last breath on April 20, at midnight yesterday at Sri Ramchandra Medical Hospital in Chennai at the age of 83, due to age related issues.

The news was announced by his family, as they issued a statement, which read, “With great sadness, we inform that our beloved Tatineni Rama Rao has left for his heavenly abode at the early hours of April 20, 2022. May he be remembered by wife Tatineni Jayashree and children Chamundeswari, Naga Suseela, Ajay and family.”

Born in Kapileswarapuram, T. Rama Rao had directed more than seventy Hindi, as well as Telugu films between 1966 to 2000. He started his career in the late ‘50s as an assistant director and made his directorial debut with ‘Navrathri’ in 1966. He also became more popular in Bollywood later since ‘80s, as he had successfully made several Tamil and Telugu films’ Hindi remakes, which were blockbuster hits at that time.

His few remarkable films are ‘Lok Parlok’ (1979), ‘Maang Bharo Sajana’ (1980), ‘Ek Hi Bhool’ (1981), ‘Jeevan Dhara’ (1982), ‘Andha Kanoon’ (1983), ‘Naseeb Apna Apna’ (1986), ‘Jung’ (1986), ‘ Bulandi’ (2000), etc.

T. Rama Rao had worked with many top A-list Bollywood stars in his life like Amitabh Bachchan, Sridevi, Rekha, Jeetendra, Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Anupam Kher among others and currently the whole Bollywood industry is mourning his demise on social media.
