Quentin Tarantino’s tenth film ‘The Movie Critic’ is anticipated to be about the life of Pauline Kael. It’s been reported that, California government has granted a $20.2 million subsidy. The film is one of 16 projects to receive state tax credits in the latest allocation.

California awards $330 million per year in state subsidies for film and TV shows in order to keep production in the state. The Tarantino film is identified only as #10 in its tax credit application.

‘The Movie Critic’ is still in the early stages of development and no cast or release date have been announced yet. However, the subsidy from the state of California is a major step forward for the project. Netflix is the only major platform that seized the $20 million allotment.

“I love shooting in California.” The ‘Kill Bill’ director shared, “I started directing movies here and it is only fitting that I shoot my final motion picture in the cinema capital of the world. There is nothing like shooting in my hometown; the crews are the best I have ever worked with and the locations are amazing. The producers and I are thrilled to be making #10 in Los Angeles.”

For the unversed, ‘The Movie Critic’ is the final project of Tarantino. The 60-year-old director has made the decision of his retirement long ago that when he will turn 60 he will end his career with his tenth film. Back in 2012, he first indicated his retirement. He explained that he doesn’t want to make a bad movie that would ruin his legacy.

“Directors don’t get better as they get older. Usually the worst films in their filmography are those last four at the end.” The ‘Pulp Fiction’ director said, “I am all about my filmography, and one bad film f**** up three good ones. I don’t want that bad, out-of-touch comedy in my filmography, the movie that makes people think, ‘Oh man, he still thinks it’s 20 years ago.’ When directors get out-of-date, it’s not pretty.”
