Maya Govind, ‘90s renowned Bollywood lyricist passes away

Born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Maya Govind was a famous Bollywood lyricist, who is best known for her work in the ‘90s in several notable movies, passed away yesterday, April 8, early in the morning at the age of 82 due to heart attack. According to ETimes, Govind was under treatment for brain clot from the past four months and later developed urine infection, which made things complicated for her.

Maya’s son, Ajay Govind shared the news and said yesterday, “She was deteriorating slowly because the clot in her brain was causing her problems. At times, it seemed like her condition would improve but then it would get worse. We brought her home from the hospital about a month and half back, so that we could take better care of her. This morning she passed away after suffering a heart attack.”

Maya Govind was married to Ram Govind, who was also a renowned writer and director in the ‘80s and ‘90s. His notable works are ‘Patton Ki Baazi’ (1986), ‘Tohfa Mohabbat Ka’ (1988), ‘Bechain’ (1993), ‘Baghban’ (2003), etc.

Govind worked in various movies like ‘Imandaar’ (1987), ‘Haqeeqat’ (1995) and ‘Miss 420’ (1998), ‘Lal Baadshah’ (1999), ‘Khanjar’ (2003), etc. She had won the prestigious Indian Telly Award for her marvellous lyrics. Maya last worked in ‘Bekasoor’ (2012), ‘Deewana Main Deewana’ (2012) and ‘Don’t Worry’ (2015), which all are directed by K C Bokadia.

Maya’s few memorable songs, which are still cherished by us in our playlists are “Sab Kuchh Mila Tu Na Mila” from the film ‘Aarop’ (1973), “Chanda Dekha Chanda” from ‘Jhooti’ (1985), “Main Khiladi Tu Anari” from ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ (1994), “Aankhon Mein Base Ho Tum” from ‘Takkar’ (1995), “Kabhi Na Kabhi”, “Hum Hai Baal Bramhachari” and “Nazrein Ladgayiaan” from ‘Bal Bramhachari’ (1996) and many more.
