Jazbaa recovers its investment

Jazbaa has turned out to be a profitable venture for all involved. After its one week run, the film has gone past the recovery mode and is now stepping into the profit zone.

Here is the break up of the estimated numbers:

Landing cost (cost of production plus P&A) – Rs. 330 million

Recovery so far: Rs. 336 million

Break up:

· Week One India theatrical share – Rs. 114 million
· Week One Overseas theatrical share – Rs. 42 million
· Satellite and music – Rs. 140 million
· Digital, In-film and Syndication – Rs. 40 million

The film has entered its second week and whatever comes from this point is bonus for all involved.

Girish Johar of Zee says, “We are pretty happy to be in a profitable position in Week One itself. This isn’t the end of it all though as there are many more markets and rights to be explored. You would be hearing a lot around the reach and penetration of ‘Jazbaa’ in other markets. Weeks to come are quite exciting for us. It is a win-win situation for all partners.”

Directed by Sanjay Gupta, ‘Jazbaa’ stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Irrfan and Shabana Azmi in key roles. In terms of nett collections from India theatrical, the film has accumulated Rs. 233 million so far (as at Saturday) and is still counting.
