Top 10 Performances of 2019

In a year which has had so many well-made films and well-etched performances, choosing the top 10 performances was nothing short of a challenge. After careful discussion and research, we were finally able to prepare a list of 10 such performances that were the closest to our hearts.

Vicky Kaushal (Uri: The Surgical Strike)
Vicky Kaushal had proved his worth last year with films like ‘Sanju’ and ‘Raazi’. But in ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’, he handled the film on his strong, firm shoulders like a leading actor should. Viewers got excited whenever he asked ‘How’s the josh?’

Ranveer Singh (Gully Boy)
That Ranveer is a versatile actor was known. Hence, as expected, he gave a tremendous performance in this intense flick and struck a chord with the viewers.

Alia Bhatt (Gully Boy)
Alia went all out while essaying the part of a rebellious and even violent girl. In that regard, she played to the gallery but she won hearts more because of her subtle act in the rest of the scenes.

Gulshan Devaiah (Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota)
He had a double role in this flick and as the villainous Jimmy, he was highly funny. Viewers would laugh and get excited the moment he came up on screen and that made this performance his best!

Shweta Basu Prasad (The Tashkent Files)
Shweta Basu Prasad proved her worth and that she’s one of the best actresses around. She was in total control and her final monologue is to be seen to be believed.

Shahid Kapoor (Kabir Singh)
Words will fail to do justice when it comes to Shahid’s performance in this blockbuster. Not to forget, he was playing the role that was essayed flawlessly in the original flick ‘Arjun Reddy’ (2017) by Vijay Deverakonda. Yet, Shahid did such an amazing job that not a single person compared him to Vijay or groused that he couldn’t do justice.

Ayushmann Khurrana (Article 15)
Ayushmann Khurrana is always excellent but in ‘Article 15’, he impressed even more as he was in the intense zone for the first time ever. It was a real mature performance and proved that if given a chance, he can excel in all kinds of roles.

Hrithik Roshan (Super 30)
Hrithik was slammed when he took up this part as he looks ‘too rich’ and hence many felt he was not right to play the role of a teacher from Patna. But Hrithik got so deep into his character and gave such a performance that he silenced all his detractors once and for all.

Bhumi Pednekar (Pati Patni Aur Woh)
Bhumi Pednekar was excellent in all the films she did in 2019, whether ‘Sonchiriya’, ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ or ‘Bala’. But in ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’, she went one step ahead in terms of impact. Her role in the second half springs a surprise and it works primarily because Bhumi performed it to the T.

Akshay Kumar (Good Newwz)
Again, even Akshay Kumar was at his best in ‘Mission Mangal’ and ‘Kesari’ but his comic timing was something else in ‘Good Newwz’. Also, in the confrontational and serious scenes in second half, he made the switch effortlessly.
