Most of the web series, they make in India, are centered around urban relationships or young people dealing with the challenges of living in a big city. ‘The Trip’, a new web series presented by Bindass, traces the lives and the journey of four young women as they go on a trip across Thailand. Ananya Makhija (Shweta Tripathi) has just got engaged and her friend Nazia (Mallika Dua) coax her and two other friends Shonali (Lisa Haydon) and Sanjana (Sapna Pabbi). In less than 17 minutes, the first episode gave us a good insight into each of the four principal characters. Ananya has just got engaged and want to go on a wild trip with her friends before she gets hitched, Shonali is passionate about making a career in music but things are not working out for her, Sanjana has a penchant for Yoga and Nazia is a goofy girl with a sharp sense of humour and is hunting for a job.

The web-series market has just opened up in India and most of these shows, owing to the limited revenue they generate as of now, are made on a modest budget. The Trip, helmed by Lakshya Raj Anand who has worked on big-ticket films like New York, Ek Tha Tiger and Bang Bang, boasts of a glossy look and high production values that go well with the vibe of this happy, road show. While the trip has not begun yet and the situations the protagonists themselves in are the kind you have come across in other television or internet shows, the treatment of the show is what gives it an edge over others. The fact that the four main characters have been played by competent actors also helps.

The first episode ends with a cliffhanger and sets the tone for the fun and frolic one expects the four girls to indulge in the forthcoming episodes. With the kind of promise the first episode has shown, one infers this is a trip you would like to be a part of.
