After ‘Batman’, ‘Suicide Squad’ is the second film franchise that will be the flag bearer of DC Universe and Warner Bros. Despite DC’s tough period with back-to-back flops, both parts of ‘Suicide Squad’ have had a successful run in theatres. Hence, it’s much expected that the film is very precious to director David Ayer.

Recently, Ayer opened up and let all his frustration come out over ruining ‘Suicide Squad’ (2016) by the Hollywood executives. On the latest episode of Jon Bernthal’s ‘Real Ones’ podcast, David expressed his excitement for the film. He said that it was one of his greatest projects and a few changes in the last part ruined his venture.

“Hollywood, I tell people, is like watching someone you love get f***ed by someone you hate. The big one is ‘Suicide Squad.’ That s**it broke me. That handed me my a**”, David expressed his disgust bluntly.

He further continued, “Come right off ‘Fury’ (2014), right? I had the town in my hand, could have done anything and I did do anything. And I go on this journey with ‘Suicide Squad’. And the same thing, authentic, truthful, let’s do all the rehearsal, let’s really get in each other’s souls. Let’s create this amazing, collaborative thing, right? And then ‘Deadpool’ (2016) opened, right? And they never tested ‘Batman Vs Superman’ (2016), so they were expecting a different result, and then they got hammered by all the critics. Then it’s like, ‘Okay, we’re going to turn David Ayer’s dark, soulful movie into a fucking comedy now’.”

David Ayer’s ‘Sucide Squad’ was a box office hit with $747 million gross, worldwide. The film starred Will Smith and introduced Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Later James Gunn directed the second ‘Suicide Squad’ film in 2021.
