Subhash Ghai goes nostalgic at the launch of METRO INOX Cinemas

The Showman had a flood of nostalgic moments when he was attending the inauguration ceremony of the newly embellished Metro Cinemas located in South Mumbai. The filmmaker was part of the grand event along with some of the leading celebrities of the city like Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis along with his wife Amruta Fadnavis, megastar Amitabh Bachchan and filmmakers Sooraj Barjatya and Boney Kapoor.

During his interaction with the media and audiences, the renowned filmmaker shared some of the most touching memories he had at the Metro Cinema. SG as he is popularly known shared how every filmmaker was fond of this iconic theatre and how in his times he used to fix a date of his film’s release only in regards to the availability of Metro as the theatre was one the most esteemed ones in the city. His films like ‘Ram Lakhan’ and ‘Khalnayak’ which held their premieres at this classic theater were in those times one of the grand ones which were decorated by the director himself and were attended by the who’s of Bollywood personalities then. That’s not all! The director also shared a trivia about how a black ticket seller who used to sell Metro Cinema tickets outside the cinema, earned high profits with his films that he could manage to buy a house and arrange the wedding of two of his daughters!

Coming up with some more facts the producer-director Subhash Ghai said, “I have some of the fondest memories with Metro Cinema. I feel as a filmmaker I if have made a masterpiece for the audiences then it is important to watch that film through an esteemed medium and that medium was Metro Cinema back then. It takes a good amount of hardworking days and years for a film to made but the real success of the film for me is when audiences at Metro Cinema used to watch my films and throw money on the famous songs or dialogues, that moment was like a feeling of receiving a major award.”
