Saawan Kumar Tak passes away at 86

Veteran director, Saawan Kumar Tak passed yesterday evening on August 25 at the age of 86. He had lung-related ailments and was admitted in the ICU of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. His nephew Navin told the media house Indian Express, “Saawan ji suffered a heart attack at around 4:15 pm today. He died of multiple organ failure. The funeral will be held today evening.”

“May u rest in peace my dear Sawaan ji. Have always loved n respected u.”, tweeted Salman Khan and shared a throwback picture of them together. Salman had worked with the director in ‘Sanam Bewafa’ (1991) and ‘Saawan…The Love Season’ (2006).

Not only a director, Saawan Kumar Tak was also an ace producer and lyricist. Even he had started his career as a producer with Sanjeev Kumar-starred ‘Naunihal’ (1967), which received the Presidential mention at the National Film Awards that year. He marked his directorial debut with ‘Gomti Ke Kinare’ in 1972.

Saawan Kumar Tak had given numerous remarkable films like ‘Sajan Bina Suhagan’ (1978), ‘Souten Ki Beti’ (1989), ‘Bewaffa Se Waffa’ (1992) and many more. His one of the most famous ventures was Rajesh Khanna-starred ‘Souten’ (1983), which was the first ever Hindi film shot in Mauritius and was also a Platinum Jubilee hit.

Tak had also penned several unforgettable songs from films like ‘Kaho Na…Pyaar Hai’ (2000) and ‘Dev’ (2004). Also songs like “Zindagi Pyar Ka Geet Hai” from ‘Souten’, “Hum Bhool Gaye” from ‘Souten Ki Beti’, “Yeh Dil Bewafa Se Wafa” from ‘Bewaffa Se Waffa’, which were all sung by Late Lata Mangeshkar Ji.
