Pop-star Rihanna recently attended the ‘Super Bowl Halftime Show’ and gave a breathtaking performance after returning to the stage after six long years. However, not only her performance is making noise currently, but she is also making headlines for receiving huge backlash on the internet.
A group of activist named, Justice For Myanmar called out the star in a Twitter thread for wearing a Burmese ruby ring during the performance, which is worth $1 million. According to Bayco Jewels, the ring is a rare natural, unheated 19.47-carat sugarloaf cabochon Burma ruby. The group highly criticised Rihanna for wearing such an expensive ring even after knowing about the condition Myanmar is facing currently.
For the unversed, Myanmar has been caught up in a turmoil ever since the military overthrew the civilian government in 2021. Myanmar is one of the top countries which produces precious stones and is well known for the quality of its rubies. Therefore, Rihanna wearing such an expensive ruby literally made people’s blood boil, who are opposed to Myanmar’s military junta.
According to the activist group, the mining ruby group supports Myanmar junta’s campaign of terror against the people. They wrote on Twitter, “@rihanna’s fellow artists in Myanmar have not been spared. Former politician & hip hop singer Phyo Zeyar Thaw was summarily executed by the military junta alongside 3 others.”

The Justice For Myanmar group also urged Rihanna to stand with Myanmar’s people and call for a ban on Myanmar’s gems.
