Although Arshad Warsi rose to fame as Circuit in ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.’ (2003), the actor gave a few good films in the ’90s too. After successfully grabbing the attention of audiences with his debut film ‘Tere Mere Sapne’ in 1996, Warsi got his first solo role in ‘Hero Hindustani’ in 1998. The film did not click at the box office and it could not cement Warsi’s career as a solo hero.

Back that time, there was a multi-starrer film released in the same year, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and it grabbed all the audiences and ruled the box office. Hence ‘Hero Hindustani’ couldn’t do well.

‘Hero Hindustani’ is a romantic-comedy film and it’s a story about a man who realises that India is completely alien to his London-raised granddaughter. Therefore he arranges her marriage there. Hence the granddaughter gets a tour guide from India to pose as her fiancé and later falls in love with him.

Even though the story is very basic, Arshad Warsi’s performance made quite an impression on audiences. His romantic chemistry with Namrata Shirodkar was eye-catching.

Anu Malik composed a melodious soundtrack and the songs “Aisi Waisi Baat Nahin”, “Chaand Nazar Aa Gaya”, “Deewana Deewana Main Tera”, “Hero Hindustani”, “Maahe Ramzan” were rendered by legendary singers such as Abhijeet, Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik, Kumar Sanu, Roop Kumar Rathod, Sadhana Sargam and Attaullah Khan, who created a huge fan following.

In an old interview with WildFilmsIndia, Arshad Warsi expressed his excitement for his first solo release and shared that generally comedy genres focus more on comedy and forget about the storyline and this is what the interesting thing about ‘Hero Hindustani’ is that it has an intriguing storyline as well which made it a diverse film.

We absolutely agree to that. As we all know, ’90s films mostly used to focus on action and romance, hence the sprinkle of comedy in a romantic story along with little actions, ‘Hero Hindustani’ created a distinctive pattern in that era.
