We live in a time where a lot of people find it difficult to distinguish between patriotism and jingoism. When one makes a film which talks about one’s love for the country, it is important to make sure that the film sends out the right message while evoking emotions at the same time. ‘Raag Desh’, based on the INA trials during World War II, recolves around the three central characters, namely Shah Nawaz Khan, Gurubaksh Singh Dhillon and Prem Sahgal, played by Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Mohit Marwah respectively. The trailer serves up with glimpses of some key events that happened during the time period the film is set in. The film seems to have elements of a war film and a courtroom drama. The patriotic fervency, too, comes to the fore prominently. The trailer is fast paced and takes one through events happening across a span of time quickly. The three male leads seem to be the perfect fit for the roles they are playing here. While one is familiar with Kunal Kapoor and Amit Sadh’s body of work and look forward to seeing them deliver strong performances, it will be interesting to see Mohit Marwah, who made his debut with ‘Fugly’ a couple of years back, pull off a fairly challenging role in his second film.

Tigmanshu Dhulia’s last release ‘Bullet Raja’ (2013), which also marked his foray into the hardcore commercial space, failed to set the cash registers ringing and ‘Yaara’, the last film he shot, has been waiting for a while now. The trailer of ‘Raag Desh’ manages to impress and if the film matches up to the kind of content one came across in the trailer, the filmmaker has a winner in his hands.
