After achieving the milestone of entering the Rs. 2 billion Club on Wednesday, Salman Khan’s ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ has now edged past Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’ [Rs. 2.025 billion] as well. The film collected Rs. 310 million in its second week, and in the process has now scored Rs. 2.04 billion at the box office.

While these are good numbers indeed by a huge margin, the fact remains that when compared to the extended first week (of 8 days), the film has taken a fall of around 80%. However, all credit to the terrific opening which ensured that for Rajshri and Fox, the film turned out to be a profitable venture.

‘Tamasha’ has released today at a huge screen count and ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ is now seeing reduced shows (2-3) in most screens. That said, the film would go past Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year [Rs. 2.05 billion] today and while overall lifetime total of Rs. 2.10 billion would be certainly crossed, it has to be seen how far does it go past that mark. Shah Rukh’s ‘Chennai Express’ record of Rs. 2.27 billion is out of bounds though, but still Salman would cherish the fact that he now has three films in the Rs. 2 billion club (‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Kick’, ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’) with ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ [Rs. 1.99 billion] missing by just a whisker.

Last week’s release ‘X: Past is Present’ has turned out to be a box office disaster with hardly any collections to boast of.
