Karan Johar has made a name for himself as a renowned film director and successful producer in the last twenty-five years. Many young and good actors were introduced through films made under his banner, Dharma Productions. Although he has worked as a producer on fifty films, his upcoming film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ will mark his seventh film as a director.

Prior to this, he previously directed six films which includes ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ (1998), ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ (2001), ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ (2006)’, ‘My Name Is Khan’ (2010), ‘Student Of The Year’ (2012) and ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ (2016).

‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ was not initially intended to be Karan’s next directorial. In the year 2018, Karan Johar made the announcement that ‘Takht’, a period drama film, will be his next as a director after ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. The film was supposed to star Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles. It was also revealed that the mega budget ambitious project of Karan would commence its shoot in Italy, where he and his team had already finalized a location. However, due to the global lockdown and the deteriorating situation in Italy, Karan was forced to shut down ‘Takht’. It was also said that the changing political atmosphere in the country made him shelve the film, which was a story about the Mughals.

Apart from Ranveer and Alia, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ also stars Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi and Jaya Bachchan in pivotal roles and will release in the theatres on July 28 this year.

Karan Johar announced last year that after ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, his next directorial will be an action film and also added that it will feature an A Lister in the lead role. However, the official confirmation on the aforementioned film is yet to be made. It is rumoured that the film might star Tiger Shroff or Varun Dhawan in the lead.
