Actor James Michael Tyler, who is famous for playing the role of Gunther in the famous ‘90s sitcom ‘Friends’ (1994-2004), died on Sunday 24th October in the morning at the age of 59. He was suffering from prostate cancer. He died at his home in Los Angeles.
Tyler had worked in many other projects apart from ‘Friends’ such as ‘Motel Blue’ (1997), ‘Scrubs’ (2001-2010), ‘Keeping Up With The Downs’ (2010), ‘Modern Music’ (2013), ‘The Gesture And The Word’ (2020) and many more.
James Michael Tyler first revealed he was battling stage 4 cancer in June 2018, when he spoke at NCB’s ‘Today Show’ and said that doctors had discovered his cancer during a routine check-up. He also said that the cancer had spread to his bones and he was not able to walk. He was getting treated with hormone therapy.
Actress Jennifer Aniston, who played the role of Rachel Green in the sitcom ‘Friends’, posted a picture of Tyler and a video clip on Instagram from the show, where Gunther (James Michael Tyler) gets the chance to propose Rachel finally. Aniston captioned it, “Friends would not have been the same without you. Thank you for the laughter you brought to the show and to all of our lives. You will be missed. #JamesMichaelTyler.”
Courteney Cox, who played the role of Monica Geller in the sitcom posted a picture of Tyler on Instagram and wrote, “The size of gratitude you brought into the room and showed every day on set it the size of the gratitude I hold for having known you. Rest In Peace James.”
