Ivory Aquino to play the first transgender character in DC’s Batgirl

Actress Ivory Aquino is a transgender actress in Hollywood, who has done many remarkable films like ‘Alien Uprising’ (2008), ‘The Fever And The Fret’ (2018), ‘Lingua Franca’ (2019), ‘Lapsis’ (2020) and many more. Now, Aquino has been officially cast in DC’s upcoming superhero film ‘Batgirl’ as Alysia Yeoh, who is the best friend of Barbara Gordon, played by Leslie Grace.

It’s been reported by Variety website, that both Ivory and Leslie are transgenders, who are marking the first transgender characters in the live-action feature film. The character, Alysia Yeoh is a bartender, who is the best friend of the leading superhero Batgirl. Alysia Yeoh first appeared in ‘Batgirl’s Volume 4’, which released in 2011.

The news of Ivory’s featuring in the film was first leaked in mid January, when Leslie Grace posted a picture from the shooting set of ‘Batgirl’ on Instagram, where it’s seen that two women are crossing the road holding hands. Leslie wrote in the picture “Barbara and Alysia” and tagged Ivory Aquino in the picture.

Apart from Leslie Grace and Ivory Aquino, ‘Batgirl’ also stars Brendon Fraser, Michael Kaeton, J.K. Simmons, Rebecca Front and Corey Johnson and directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah and produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Films and Burr! Productions.
