James Cameron directorial ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ has turned out to be a huge hit with a collection of $1.5 billion after a month of release and gave 2022 a blockbuster end. Although the first installment ‘Avatar’ (2009) still remained the highest grossing film of all time with $3 billion collection at the global box office, ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ is continuing to dominate the box office in 2023 as well.

Now, James Cameron has stated that he wants to move forward to the next franchises ‘Avatar 3’ followed by ‘Avatar 4’ and ‘Avatar 5’. In an interview with HBO Max’s Who’s Talking To Chris Wallace? show, James shared, “It looks like with the momentum that the film has now that we’ll easily pass our break even in the next few days, so it looks like I can’t wiggle out of this and I’m gonna have to do these other sequels. I know what I’m going to be doing the next six or seven years. The point is we’re going to be okay.”

“I’m sure that we will have a discussion soon with the top folks at Disney about the game plan going forward for ‘Avatar 3’, which is already in the can, we have already captured and photographed the whole film, so we are in extended post-production to do all that CG magic. And then ‘Avatar 4’ and ‘Avatar 5’ are both written. We even have some of ‘4’ in the can. We have begun a franchise at this point. We have begun a saga that can now play out over multiple films”, Cameron further continued.

Though previously in an interview with the Empire magazine, James Cameron had shared that he regret he couldn’t make other films for ‘Avatar’ as his whole career now focuses only on this film series, earlier this year he also revealed that he does have some other film ideas. He also shared that he even floated the idea of passing some of the ‘Avatar’ movies off to other directors so that he can go and helm a different movie.
