Christopher Nolan has given some outstanding sci-fi stories over the years, that made us experience a whole new level of cinema. Since the beginning of 2000 era, from ‘Batman Begins’ (2005), ‘The Dark Knight’ (2008), ‘Inception’ (2010), ‘Interstellar’ (2014) to ‘Tenet’ (2020), Nolan has created a divergent excitement among fans.

Now, the renowned director is coming to spellbind us again with ‘Oppenheimer’, a film based on the life of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who had developed the first atomic bomb in human race and is still credited as ‘the father of the atomic bomb’ for his role in the Manhattan Project during World War ll, when the first nuclear weapons were used.

Christopher Nolan has got the idea for the film from authors Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s book ‘America Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer’, which was published in 2005. The news of Cillian Murphy’s portrayal as Oppenheimer already added the excitement for fans. Later the news of joining Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Matt Damon and Jack Quiad in the cast created quite a buzz.

Recently, Nolan again surprised us by revealing some more secrets of ‘Oppenheimer’. In a recent interview with Total Film, Nolan shared that no CGI effects have been used for the film and the nuclear blasts have been shown specifically created for the shoot.

Nolan said, “I think recreating the Trinity test (the first nuclear weapon detonation, in New Mexico) without the use of computer graphics, was a huge challenge to take on. Andrew Jackson, my visual effects supervisor, I got him on board early on, was looking at how we could do a lot of the visual elements of the film practically from representing quantum dynamics and quantum physics to the Trinity test itself, to recreating, with my team, Los Alamos up on a mesa in New Mexico in extraordinary weather, a lot of which was needed for the film, in terms of the very harsh conditions out there. There were huge practical challenges.”

While explaining about his work, Nolan further shared, “It’s a story of immense scope and scale. One of the most challenging projects I have ever taken on in terms of the scale of it and in terms of encountering the breadth of Oppenheimer’s story. There were big, logistical challenges, big practical challenges. But I had an extraordinary crew and they really stepped up. It will be a while before we are finished. But certainly as I watch the results come in and as I’m putting the film together, I’m thrilled with what my team has been able to achieve.”

‘Oppenheimer’ will be releasing on July 21, 2023.
