Team ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is breaking its own records. The film has now raced past ‘Ram Leela’, which had practically the same team of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Eros. Released exactly two years back, ‘Ram Leela’ had scored an opening week of Rs. 794.9 million with a better opening day (Rs. 157.3 million) and weekend (Rs. 514.9 million). Now, despite massive competition from ‘Dilwale’, lesser screens and a competitive opening day (Rs. 128 million) and weekend (Rs. 467.7 million), the film has enjoyed an even better week with Rs. 861.5 million coming in.

With this, the film has established it loud and clear that it is here to stay, as the trending over weekdays has been fantastic with over Rs. 90 million coming in on every day. The real game would begin now as the historical saga has established its credentials and word of mouth has taken over in a big way. The testimonial to this is the fact that exhibitors are showing great confidence in the film and are running it in higher numbers of shows when compared to ‘Dilwale’. This pretty much establishes it loud and clear that the film would have a better second week in comparison to the competition, and the gap would be only bridged.

The film has now taken the fourth highest Week One of 2015. Here is the list of other record holders:

‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ – Rs. 1.8462 billion
‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ – Rs. 1.6545 billion [Thursday release – First 7 days]
‘Dilwale’ – Rs. 1.025 billion* [Final numbers awaited]
‘Bajirao Mastani’ – Rs. 861.5 million
‘Singh Is Blinng’ – Rs. 776 million

‘Bajirao Mastani’ is now set to score Rs. 1 billion by tomorrow morning and all eyes would be on the pace that the film picks up from this point on in the most lucrative three day holiday weekend.
