Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s novel thriller Aankhen completes 21 years today

Vipul Shah’s film ‘Aankhen’ (2002) is a memorable films thanks for its different story, well executed direction, performances by lead actors, background music and songs. The heist thriller film completes twenty-one years today.

The film was the story of a bank robbery, executed by three blind men, Vishwas Prajapati, Arjun Verma and Ilyas played by Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal and Paresh Rawal respectively. Vijay Singh Rajput, who designed the plan, was played by Amitabh Bachchan.

‘Aankhen’ is based on the Gujarati play, ‘Andhalo Pato’ and producer-director Vipul Amrutlal Shah wanted to register the title ‘Aankh Micholi’ for the film. But since the title was already registered by another producer, he dropped the idea and named the film ‘Aankhen’.

There were rumors at the time of its release that it was inspired by the Hollywood film, ‘Blind Range’ (1978). However, director Vipul Shah had denied these rumors.

It was said that in the 2019, the makers thought of making a sequel to the film with Amitabh Bachchan, Sidharth Malhotra, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna. But reportedly, the film got shelved and never got made.

Sunshine Pictures, that produced the film, celebrated the twenty-one years of ‘Aankhen’ on their Twitter handle and captioned, “It’s been 21 years since #Aankhen stole our hearts with its stellar cast and captivating storyline. Celebrating the magic of this timeless classic!”
