In spite of giving over one hundred thirty films and being a crowd puller, Ajay Devgn still remains underrated in terms of box office reputation. Although newbies like Ranbir Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Ranveer Singh, etc., are widely known for their valorous performances, Devgn’s bold and adventurous works still grab attention.
Despite coming from a film background as his father Veeru Devgan was a stunt choreographer and action director and his mother is a producer, Ajay Devgn cemented his career in the industry solely on his own. Making his big Bollywood debut with ‘Phool Aur Kante’ in 1991, he grabbed audiences’ attention on the first go. The film was a blockbuster and Devgn instantly became people’s favourite. But that was all because of his acting and the storyline. The on-screen coupling with actress Madhoo did not arouse audiences though.
Here we have come up with four actresses with whom Devgn’s on-screen coupling created much hype.
Ajay Devgn and Tabu
Although Tabu made her debut as leading actress in ‘Pehla Pehla Pyaar’ (1994), she got her first big break with Ajay Devgn only when ‘Vijaypath’ was released in the same year. The chemistry between Tabu and Ajay was electrifying, especially in the songs, “Rah Mein Unse Mulaqat Ho Gayi” and “Aaiye Apka Intezar Tha”. The pairing of Tabu and Ajay Devgn was so perfect that people used to assume them as a couple in real life!
After ‘Vijaypath’s immense box office success, the duo gave back-to-back remarkable films in the ‘90s like ‘Haqeeqat’ (1995) and ‘Thakshak’ (1999). But after that, the duo shockingly wasn’t seen together for a long time and reunited after fifteen years in ‘Drishyam’ (2015). Since then the duo hasn’t been paired together (except in the 2019 rom-com ‘De De Pyaar De’) and given striking performances (not as a couple, but individually) in films like ‘Fitoor’ (2016), ‘Golmaal Again’ (2017), ‘Drishyam 2’ (2022) and ‘Bholaa’ (2023).
Ajay Devgn and Sonali Bendre
Another jodi that grabbed much attention was Ajay Devgn and Sonali Bendre. Films like ‘Diljale’ (1996), ‘Major Saab’ (1996), ‘Zakhm’ (1998) and ‘Tera Mera Saath Rahe’ (2001) divulged the great chemistry between them. Be it their cute bickering in songs “Ho Nahi Sakta”, “Akeli Na Bazaar Jaaya Karo”, the lovely romance in “Pyar Kiya Toh Nibhana” or the sad moments in “Kuch Tum Behko” and “Mera Mulk Mera Desh”, the duo created a rollercoaster of emotions. Hence, Ajay Devgn and Sonali Bendre’s on-screen coupling was quite popular back then.
Ajay Devgn and Kajol
Whilst people love to watch Kajol romancing with Shah Rukh Khan mostly, her pairing with Ajay Devgn wasn’t that bad either. The real-life couple gave lots of noteworthy films till date. From ‘Gundaraj’ (1995), ‘Ishq’ (1997), ‘Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha’ (1998), ‘Dil Kya Kare’ (1999) to ‘Raju Chacha’ (2000), ‘U Me Aur Hum’ (2008) and ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’ (2020), the duo’s chemistry has been lapped up by the fans. Song like “Jab Kisiki Taraf Dil”, “Pyaar Ke Liye”, “Aaj Hai Sagaai”, “Dekho Dekho Janam”, “Neend Churaya Meri”, “Ajnabee Mujhko Itna Bata” are still cherished by fans.
Ajay Devgn and Karisma Kapoor
Ajay Devgn and Karisma Kapoor’s on-screen pairing was a hit since their first film, ‘Jigar’s (1992) released. Karisma’s bubbly and Ajay’s manly personalities got so much hype that the duo ended up giving back-to-back hits within a year with ‘Sangram’, ‘Shaktiman’ and ‘Dhanwaan’ in 1993. Songs like “Mere Dil Ko Karrar”, “Pyaar Ke Kagaz Pe”, “Tere Liye Janam” are among of the famous songs of the duo. They were last seen together in ‘Suhaag’ (1994).
