Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi fronted comedy drama ‘Selfiee’ released in theatres yesterday, one month after Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’s release, which is still ruling the roost and a week after Kartik Aaryan’s ‘Shehzada’. The film received good reviews from critics and audiences. But it seems this positive word of mouth failed to attract the audiences to the cinema halls.
On its opening day at the box office, ‘Selfiee’ earned around Rs. 3 Crore. This is quite less in comparison with the opening of Akshay Kumar’s other releases.
The film needs to gain momentum in the coming days to survive at the box office and register decent numbers. However, with such low numbers, the fate of ‘Selfiee’ is sealed and is unlikely to emerge as a commercial success.
‘Selfiee’ has Akshay Kumar in the role of a movie star and Emraan Hashmi as Akshay Kumar’s fan. Directed by Raj Mehta, the film is the Hindi remake of the Malayalam film ‘Driving License’ (2019), which starred Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
