In 2021, Zack Snyder garnered a lot of appreciation for ‘The Suicide Squad’ and ‘Army Of Thieves’. Now, after two years, he is back with a film about outer space with ‘Rebel Moon’.

In 2013, Snyder was in the talks with Lucasfilm to create a new ‘Star Wars’ film, inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s ‘Seven Samurai’ (1954). That plan has successfully come to fruition with ‘Rebel Moon’.

The story of ‘Rebel Moon’ is about a colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. This is when they dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighbouring planets to help them take a stand. Directed by Zack, the script is co-written by Snyder, Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad.

Hence, ‘Rebel Moon’ in a way is a new version of Lucasfilms’ original ‘Star Wars’. With a touch of the story of ‘Seven Samurai’, Snyder revealed that he wanted to present a space opera about a legitimate extended universe.

The interesting part is that recently Snyder revealed that there will be a special director’s cut in the film, which will be an hour long and will show some additional footage of the film. The director shared that ‘Rebel Moon’ will have two parts. One will be PG-13 version and another one will be strictly rated R. He also mentioned that the latter will also offer fans a “deeper, harder” look.

Six days ago Netflix dropped the much awaited teaser trailer of ‘Rebel Moon’. Starring Sofia Boutella, Ray Fisher, Anthony Hopkins, Charlie Hunnam, Charlotte Maggi, Jena Malone and Ed Skrein, the film is all set to release on Netflix on December 22, 2023.
