Raabta Trailer Review

Dinesh Vijan, the man who has films like ‘Love Aaj Kal’, ‘Agent Vinod’, ‘Cocktail’, ‘Finding Fanny’ and ‘Badlapur’ to his credit as a producer, turns director with ‘Raabta’, a film jointly produced by his production company Maddock Films and T-Series. While the film was in news for the sizzling chemistry shared by its lead pair on (and supposedly off) screen, not much was known about the plot of the film. Till 1:06 minutes into the trailer you see Shiv (Sushant Singh Rajput) and Saira (Kriti Sanon) sharing some warm moments with each other and then, the trailer takes you into an unknown time zone in which the lead pair and the antagonist (played by Jim Sarbh) are seen in an altogether different avatar. The present and the past are interspersed against Sachin-Jigar’s background score and a voiceover provided by Irrfan.

While the trailer manages to make you curious, it also brings a sense of déjà vu along with it. The plot of the film seems similar to SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster Telugu hit ‘Magadheera’ (2009) and the treatment brings back not-so-fond memories of last year’s dud ‘Mirzya’. Is the film based on reincarnation or is the events depicted in the past are just used as a metaphor? Sushant and Kriti’s pairing, Jim Sarbh’s casting as the main antagonist and the lilting rendition of the new ‘Raabta’ track by Neeti Mohan does get you interested in the film but overall, the trailer does leave one with a bit of a confusion which, hopefully, should turn into positive interest in the days to come and make one go to the theatres to check out the film in its entirety.
