Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll and music legend Tina Turner passes away at 83

Tina Turner, whose songs rocked the show in the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s, took her last breath yesterday on May 24 at the age of 83.

According to her representative, the legendary singer died peacefully in her home in Küsnacht, near Zurich, Switzerland after suffering from a number of health issues including cancer, a stroke and kidney failure since the past few years.

The news of her death was announced on her official Instagram page. The post consisted of a monochromatic picture and the caption read, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”

Turner begun her career in the ‘50s. After getting divorced from an abusive relationship with the late musician Ike Turner in 1978, she evolved into a phenomenal star and became one of the top recording artists of all time. Later she got married to Erwin Bach in 2013. In 2018 she first explained about her previous marriage vastly in her memoir, My Love Story with Ike Turner. She wrote, “He used my nose as a punching bag so many times that I could taste blood running down my throat when I sang.”

The singer gave numerous memorable songs like “Let’s Stay Together”, “Goldeneye”, “River Deep – Mountain High”, “Proud Mary”, “I Don’t Wanna Lose You”, “The Best”, “Private Dancer”, “What’s Love Got To Do With It”, “We Don’t Need Another Hero” and many more throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s.

It was all thanks to her unique blend of R&B, soul, rock and pop music that helped her stand out and amass a huge fan following. Thanks to her powerful singing, Turner’s stage performances had always been super energetic. She won eight Grammys and was introduced to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2021 as a solo artist.
