‘Laxmii’ (2020) directed by Raghava Lawrence, is a horror movie with a pinch of comedy. It is the remake of the Tamil movie ‘Kanchana’ (2011). With a soundtrack assembled by a variety of artists (as we cannot call all of the music composers!) such as Tanishk Bagchi, Shashi-DJ Khushi and Ullumanati and a team of lyricists like Vayu, Gagan Ahuja, Farhad Samji and Ullumanati, this Akshay Kumar starrer got the formula right as the music remained in the news for a while before its release.
“Start Stop” can be termed as Akshay Kumar’s intro song and is composed by Tanishk Bagchi, written by Vayu and sung by the underrated Raja Hasan, who is slowly getting more recognition. The song overall is quite quirky and someone mostly can shake their hips to it but it’s definitely not Tanishk’s best work. Recreated songs like, “O Saki Saki”, “Dilbar”, “Coca Cola” and many others by Tanishk seemed more twisty and catchier. Vayu’s work in ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’ (2020) is more efficient than ‘Laxmii’.
“Burj Khalifa” named after the famous skyscraper Burj Khalifa in Dubai and which was also shot there, is composed and sung by Shashi-DJ Khushi. The dependable Nikhita Gandhi and Madhubanti also lend their voices. The lyrics are written by Gagan Ahuja. Being a DJ, Khushi did a fair work here as anybody can start grooving on it and it is also quite captivating. The flaming chemistry between Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani is shown pretty well in the song. Even in the charts, “Burj Khalifa” did pretty well than “Start Stop”. It gives out a real party feel and it was also termed as a chartbuster by the audience.
“Mata Ka Jagrata” is a composition made up of a series of songs – “Apna Time Aayega” from ‘Gully Boy’ (2019), “Kala Chashma” from ‘Bar Bar Dekho’ (2016) and “Main Nikla Gaddi Leke” from ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ (2001). It is composed by Tanishk Bagchi and written and sung by Farhad Samji. The song basically doesn’t have any authenticity. Anybody who has listened to the other songs can easily figure out that this whole song is totally a potpourri. The lyrics are different from the other songs but the feel is same. Although it is kind of a hilarious one that how Akshay Kumar is acting and dancing in it and people in the film don’t even realize that the song isn’t real.
“Bam Bholle” is a remake of the song named “Bam Bholle” itself which came out on 2017. It is produced by Viruss and Ullumanati. When the song was first released in 2017, it didn’t get much of a response but then, due to Tik Tok it got recognized more and people started listening to it. The song has more than 2 million Tik Tok videos and got more than 200 million views on YouTube. The song came to Akshay Kumar and the producers of ‘Laxmii’ and they wanted to promote the song in the movie. The track itself is really appealing, gives out a real intense and horror feel. And the way Akshay Kumar dances in the song is really scary and as well as captivating.
‘Laxmii’s soundtrack is the answer how songs are crafted, chosen, recycled, recreated and blended in today’s times. It is like fast food. Enjoy it while it lasts!
