Ki and Ka Trailer: Redefining gender specific roles

R. Balki’s films are known for their unique themes. The director thinks out-of-the-box and comes up with strikingly fresh ideas that surprise the audience. Though his last film ‘Shamitabh’ failed to impress the audience, if one goes by the trailer of his new film ‘Ki and Ka’, he is going to create the same magic as he did with ‘Cheeni Kum’ and ‘Paa’.

The trailer starts off with a lady asking Kabir (Arjun Kapoor) whether Kia (Kareena Kapoor Khan) is the man of the family. Kabir replies in the negative and says, in a slightly taunting voice, that he can understand the confusion as their relationship does not adhere to the gender defined roles laid by the Indian society. Then, one gets a glimpse of Kia and Kabir’s love story and married life.

The trailer, for most of its part, has a fun vibe to it. It makes you smile throughout as you see Kia and Kabir indulging in some fun banter and leading their lives in a rather unconventional manner. The film seems to be a fresh take on the husband-wife equation seen from the eyes of a new-age, urban couple. It comes across as a very progressive film without trying to be preachy. One expects a good mix of romance, humour and drama from this Kareena Kapoor Khan and Arjun Kapoor starrer that hits theatres on April 1, 2016.
