The year hasn’t been great for Bollywood, as we all know. Films expected to do 200 crore or 300 crore business like ‘Tubelight’ and ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ failed miserably at the box office. ‘Raees’ underperformed while ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’ is the biggest Hindi film grosser at around 132 crore. It’s shocking that till close to 9 months, not a single film has managed to go beyond 132 crores. This hasn’t happened in the last 7-8 years!
But now ‘Judwaa 2’ is expected to shine brightly. The film is more of a reboot than sequel and looks highly entertaining, fresh and most importantly, massy. It stars Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu and is directed by David Dhawan. The two songs from the original are used as well – “Oonchi Hai Building” and “Chalti Hai Kya 9 Se 12”. While a section of moviegoers slammed the remixes, one can’t deny the fact that the tracks have got noticed and have only added to the hype. Trade is highly excited and a huge opening is on the cards. Moreover, the film has the advantage of a four-day weekend – Monday October 2 is a holiday owing to Gandhi Jayanti. Hence, the film can record great collections and reach 100 crore in no time.
However, the film needs to be great and have a positive word of mouth to sustain. Or else, it can fall after the holiday season is over or in worst case scenario, it can crash on Saturday itself. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen. The industry badly needs a super hit. If ‘Judwaa 2’ also fails, the exhibitors will face a crisis as there’s no other interesting films for the next two weeks, till Diwali. All their hopes are pinned on ‘Judwaa 2’ and let’s wish that it emerges as a blockbuster!
