Audience is back in theaters. Finally! So what if it is for a Hollywood flick, the fact remains that film lovers can’t be blamed any more for not turning up to watch a flick. This has been pretty much demonstrated by ‘Fast and Furious 7’ which has taken best start of the year so far across languages, including Hindi. After a 50 crore weekend, all eyes were on how the film would perform over the weekdays. It was more or less certain though that the film would sustain well in theaters since the word of mouth ranged from good to excellent. This is exactly what happened as the first week billing reads around 72 crore.

With such superb numbers, the film is now already the highest grossing Hollywood film in India. It is now set to achieve 100 crore in India and there is very good possibility of the feat being celebrated in two weeks flat. The film has now set a benchmark for other international films releasing in India as nothing like this has ever happened before. Superhit, and on way to be a Blockbuster.

On the other hand, ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy’ has flopped at the box office. If the critical acclaim and word of mouth was mixed, whatever chances that the Sushant Singh Rajput film carried were further ran over by Fast and Furious 7. With just around 20 crore coming in the first week and not much expected from this point on, the film has taken slightly better opening than Dibakar Banerjee’s last, ‘Shanghai’ (18 crore), but its lifetime total would fold up around 22-23 crore. Disappointing.
