Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra will soon be seen in ‘Chamkila’, a musical biopic. The film directed by Imtiaz Ali has created fair buzz among the fans of the actors and latest reports suggest that the film may not get a theatrical release. The makers have apparently opted for a direct-to-OTT premiere. If things go as planned, it will stream on Netflix soon and an announcement is likely to made regarding the same by next month.

The film which was announced in 2019, was in news for several reasons. Earlier, it was reported that filmmaker Imtiaz Ali was keen on either Ayushmann Khurrana, Ranbir Kapoor or Kartik Aaryan to play the lead in the film but they rejected the film due to date issues. Later, the film went to Diljit Dosanjh, who reportedly agreed to play the lead. The film is based on the life of late Punjabi folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila while Parineeti Chopra will play his wife Amarjot Kaur. The actress recently finished shooting for her portions in the film.

The film also marks the fourth association of Imtiaz Ali and A R Rahman, who is composing music for the film. The duo previously worked in ‘Rockstar’ (2011), ‘Highway’ (2014) and ‘Tamasha’ (2015).

‘Chamkila’ is a dream project for filmmaker Imtiaz Ali and it is learnt that he was working on the film even before the release of ‘Love Aaj Kal’ (2020).
