Buniyaad star Mangal Dhillon passes away due to cancer

Yesteryear actor and director Mangal Dhillon, who rose to fame for his striking performance in the TV serial ‘Buniyaad’ (1986-87), took his last breath today on June 11, early in the morning. According to reports, he was suffering from lung cancer for a long time and was getting treatment from Ludhiana Cancer Hospital for the past one month.

The grieving news was announced by his family on social media. The note read, “Aaj sadde Harman piyare Mangal Dhillon ji Sanu sariyan nu alvida keh ke akal chalana kar gaye ne… waheguru ji ohna nu sachkhand vich apne charna vich niwas bakshe.. (Today, our dear Mangal Dhillon left us saying goodbye. May Waheguru bless him).”

Mangal Dhillon began his journey acting in theatres in Delhi. He got his first big break with ‘Buniyaad’ TV show as Lubhaya Ram and within no time, he became quite popular among audiences. He had also played the crucial role of Sumer Rajvansh in the other superhit show ‘Junoon’ (1993-98), which cemented his career in the entertainment industry. Dhillon achieved his first lead role as Akbar in the TV show ‘Noorjahan’ (2000-01).

The 48-year-old actor made his big Bollywood debut with ‘Khoon Bhaari Mang’ (1988). He was quite famous for villainous roles in Bollywood. With films like ‘Zakhmi Aurat’ (1988), ‘Naaka Bandi’ (1990), ‘Pyaar Ka Devta’ (1991), ‘Dil Tera Ashique’ (1993), ‘Train To Pakistan’ (1998), etc., Dhillon was quite successful in grabbing audiences’ attention.
