Except for ‘Bombay Velvet’, last few weeks have been super productive for the Hindi film industry, distributors, exhibitors and above all, audience. ‘Fast and Furious 7’, ‘Avengers 2’, ‘Gabbar Is Back’, ‘Piku’ and now ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ – suddenly there is a plethora of money making films managing to revive the film watching scene in the country. The excuse of ‘audience not in mood of visiting theaters’ is no more applicable. With around Rs. 400 crore back into the industry, there is more than just a glimmer of hope that the industry won’t buckle down under pressure.

During this time, with ‘Welcome 2 Karachi’ hitting the screens, one just hopes that the winning run would continue. A comedy by Ashish R. Mohan, who has earlier directed ‘Khiladi 786’, the film has seen a good response for its promo. With Arshad Warsi and Jackky Bhagnani in lead, the film appears to have a good fun plot. However, just as has been the case with last so many releases, the Vashu Bhagnani production too would have its eyes set on good word of mouth doing the trick. That said, competition from ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ would mean that the film’s content would have to be really rock solid to find itself on a strong footing in theaters.

Another release of the week is ‘Ishqedarriyaan’. The Mahaakshay Chakraborty and Evelyn Sharma starrer boasts of one of the best soundtracks of the year. It would be seeing a controlled release and would have to make it’s presence felt instantly to register an impact.

Other releases of the week are ‘P Se PM Tak’, ‘Lateef’ and ‘I Love Desi’, each of which would struggle to get even an all-India release.
