Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship Quick Movie Review

Debutant director Bhanu Pratap Singh does not know the basics of scaring the audience as he goes the old path by borrowing all the tricks from hit horror movies. The novelty factor is clearly missing, though not deliberately. Backed by Karan Johar, this flick fails to engage in the second half, despite a strong first half which promises an unusual affair. Vicky Kaushal undoubtedly manages to impress with his performance, even though, the script loses its sense as it develops further. Ashutosh Rana’s character could have been developed further and it is satisfactory. Bhumi Pednekar is simply there to add more face value to this movie but she barely makes any impact whatsoever. The excellent background score elevates its quality whereas the story is not gripping enough to capitalize in this genre. In a nutshell, watch the original ‘Bhoot’ (2003) as it is a better made product than this pseudo horror movie by Dharma Productions. Vicky Kaushal’s strong performance ‘saves this ship’ from sinking!
