Bachchhan Paandey Movie Review

‘Bachchhan Paandey’ is much more than a comedy-crime drama. It depicts how art has a way to change a life. There is a personality development and transformation through the practice of art that one can observe through the character of Akshay Kumar.

Set in a place called Baghwa, Akshay plays the role of a deadly gangster who is well-known for his criminal offenses but has ethics too. Kriti Sanon plays the role of an aspiring director who wants to make a biopic on Akshay. The duo engages in conflicts and emotional connections and ends up being successful. Akshay aka Bachchhan wanted to play a hero in his own biopic that makes Kriti struggle. She brings in Pankaj Tripathi to teach them how to act.

Tripathi overshadowed everyone in the movie and wasn’t just a character to provide comic relief amidst rising tensions. He was extraordinary throughout. The latter half of the film is much better in comparison to the first and Tripathi is to be praised for that.

From the moment Tripathi brings art into the lives of the gangsters, they learn discipline and responsibility. The ones who would pick up guns at any given time learned patience to bear with rebukes. Not only that, they learn dialogues and make a Housefull movie earning love and respect. However unrealistic it might sound, they learn the way of living a civilized life.

Akshay’s macho look with a punch of hilarious dialogues is good to watch. Arshad Warsi and Kriti Sanon’s on-screen bond is beautiful. Kriti aka Myra feels like a real-life person. The character of Jacqueline Fernandez is not only repetitive but also boring.

The plot of the film is interesting but is too grand to be true. The notorious gangsters burning alive a journalist in broad daylight or an army of police officers failing to imprison Bachchhan Pandey is too hard to believe. The music is a big letdown. There are too many songs that add to the unnecessary screen time. The time could have been otherwise saved to induce a darker version of comedy.

The movie is entertaining and good to watch with family but more than once one might feel chaotic. There is however a deeper understanding of life in the film and maybe somewhere, some gangster would try to learn acting and give away guns.

‘Bachchhan Paandey’ is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Videos.
