Avengers: Age Of Ultron grows stronger than small releases

Yet again, it was Hollywood that came trumps and that is simply because ‘Avengers – Age of Ultron’ provided an exciting outing for the money paying audience. The film managed to do well across the country in A, B and C centers which pretty much tells the tale that for a franchise action offering from Hollywood which offers a true big screen viewing, audience won’t mind shelling out money. This is what truly happened as the film, after taking a very good opening in excess of 10 crore, continued to bring in moolah and enjoyed a weekend of around 35 crore. Terrific indeed, and a clear Superhit in the making at the least.

There was never any chance at all for the likes of ‘Ishq Ke Parindey’, ‘Jai Ho! Democracy’ and ‘Kaagaz Ke Fools’ to score at the box office, considering the kind of product they looked, the release they got and the mood of audience when it comes to stepping into theaters. With none of the three films even managing to find whole hearted attention from critics, majority of whom chose to ignore them completely and instead enjoy a Friday evening off, the writing was clear on the wall as audiences too followed suit.

As a result, even the combined collections of these three films couldn’t cross the 1 crore mark. Now this is a pathetic state of affairs as such kind of films isn’t what an average moviegoer bargains for. As a matter of fact, one wonders how these films were even sanctioned and even came into being as they apparently didn’t seem exciting on paper itself.

Fourth release of the week, ‘Lateef’, has been pushed to May 15, but that would only reap in some benefit provided there is some promotion on the cards for the Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer. Otherwise, competition with Bombay Velvet on this day won’t really help this much-delayed stuck-in-the-cans film.
