The Academy Awards show 2022 took place on Sunday, March 27 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The Oscars have become a milestone for all the streaming giants this year, as Apple TV+ made history to be the first ever OTT platform to win Best Picture Oscar at the 94th Academy Awards.

Apple TV+ Original ‘CODA’ wins the Oscar, which released in 2021. It is a story about a young woman named, Ruby Rossi (Emilia Jones), who is the sole member of a deaf family from Gloucester, Massachusetts. At the age of seventeen, Ruby works in the mornings before school, to help her parents and brother keep their fishing business afloat. But in joining her high school’s choir club, Ruby finds herself drawn to both her duet partner and her latent passion for singing.

Directed by Sian Heder, ‘CODA’ stars Troy Kotsur, Eugenio Derbez, Emilia Jones, Marlee Matlin and Daniel Durant. The film is adapted from ‘The Belier Family’ (2014), directed by Éric Lartigau. Even Troy Kotsur also made history as the first deaf actor to win The Supporting Actor Oscar.

After winning the Oscars, director, Sian Heder said in an interview in the backstage, “This is a really big moment for the Deaf community. It’s a really big moment for the disability community.”

‘CODA’ beats Netflix’s ‘The Power Of The Dog’ (2021), which was also nominated in the Best Picture Oscar category.
