Angelina Jolie is all set to take over the Manhattan studio, where the famous artists Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat lived and worked in the past, along with Basquait’s New York apartment.

According to reports, Jolie will be renting these places for commercial use for eight years. The property is located at 57 Great Jones Street. Jolie will rent the place for her latest creative venture, Atelier Jolie.

The interior of this whole space features 6,600 sq ft with three floors. The outer space of the building is filled with beautiful street arts, created by the artist duo. It has been heard that Jolie will be keeping the place as it is as a public tribute to Jean-Michel Basquait.

Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquait started their careers as graffiti artists. While Andy was a leading figure of the pop art movement in the ’60s, Basquait was famous for his works in the neo-expressionism movement in the ’80s.

Director duo John Roesch and Garrett Kelly confirmed the news of Angelina’s takeover at the real estate agency Meridian Capital Group. While Roesch said, “Jolie wanted to preserve the older art on the building and keep that Basquiat feel to the space”, Kelly added, “She loved the facade of the building and it being tagged up with the street art as a memorial for Basquiat.”

The whole property was originally constructed in 1860 and was first purchased by Paolo Antonio Vaccarelli aka the gangster Paul Kelly, who opened the Brighton Athletic Club there in 1904. At first, the building was used for metal business till 1970. Later, Warhol purchased it and gave it a rich history. Just before Angelina’s purchase, it was owned by the famous Japanese restaurant, Bohemian.

However, Atelier Jolie is an upcoming fashion label which will celebrate self-expression and the work of skilled craftspeople. Basically, it is a place for creative people to collaborate with a skilled and diverse family of expert tailors, pattern makers and artisans from around the world. Artists will get the opportunity to exhibit their works at this property.
