Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be back to charm the audiences in Ponniyin Selvan 2; Mani Ratnam’s much awaited film gets a release date

Director Mani Ratnam, who predominantly works in Tamil industry, has given numerous magnum opus in Bollywood as well like ‘Roja’ (1992), ‘Bombay’ (1995), ‘Dil Se…’ (1998), ‘Yuva’ (2004), ‘Guru’ (2007), ‘Raavaan’ (2010), among others.

Ratnam last worked in Bollywood with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan in ‘Raavaan’ and now after twelve years, he again collaborated with Aishwarya in ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ (2022). The film which was released in both Tamil and Hindi languages, created quite a buzz in whole India and became the second Tamil blockbuster this year, after Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vikram’ (2022).

It also marked as a comeback of sorts for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as her last film, Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ (2016), was also a big hit at the box office. In ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, Aishwarya impressed the audiences with her charm and aura and her pure India attire was talked about. Even though the film had opened with mixed reviews and word of mouth in the Hindi speaking markets, it sustained well and had respectable lifetime collections.

It was already announced previously that ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ will have a second part and now the makers have finally unveiled that the sequel’s release date. Just like the first part, the second installment will be screened in multiple languages.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan took to her Instagram handle and dropped a thrilling 34-second teaser of the film. ‘PS2’, presented by Lyca Productions and Subaskaran Allirajah in association with Madras Talkies Productions and music by legendary AR Rahman, will release in cinemas on April 28, 2023.
