‘The Matrix Resurrections’ (2021) released in China on January 14, 2022 and within one week, the Chinese netizens are threatening to boycott the sci-fi blockbuster, after hearing the news of the lead actor, Keanu Reeves’ joining the Tibet House US Benefit concert in March.

Keanu Reeves has been in the headlines nowadays for various reasons such as appearing as Neo after two decades followed by his donating all his money earned from the film to charity and now, getting boycotted in China. Although, ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ is not doing well in China, it has already been declared as a mediocre film and has grossed only $12.3 million in China since its release. The film has earned only five out of ten rating on Chinese website, Douban.

The Tibet House US is a Tibetan independence organization by the Chinese authorities, which maintain the complex history between China and Tibet. This is not the first time a Hollywood actor is getting boycotted. Whenever any Hollywood star previously supported the Tibetan organization, it had become a taboo in China. Just like actor Richard Gere for having a close connection with Dalai Lama, had lost his every deal with China. Same went with actor Brad Pitt for doing the film ‘Seven Years In Tibet’ (1997) and pop-star Selena Gomez for taking a picture with Dalai Lama.

After the news spread of Keanu Reeves’ joining the Tibet House US just after ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ released, Chinese netizens have started boycotting the film on social media and commenting of quitting of being a fan of Keanu Reeves.
